Poem on Son’s Second Birthday

The best anniversaries are ones that never end
Joys that well eternally, they perpetually ascend
The solace of a lonely soul and the sparing of a fly
And when thou seest me laughing, be thankful for thine eye

Eternal are those memories which God hath brought to life
But far more significant to me is that brought forth by my wife
Nigh on 3 am it began with the breaking of the water
The day that has no equal shall ever make shudder

Someday after a thousand years, when we’re up in cloud
I imagine we’ll relive the birth — that morning, glad & proud
But will we recall how sad we were on the passing of that day
When the rest of life comes afterwards, with little else to say?
