Excerpts from “The Land In Between”

Midway through the winter
I noticed the light bring
hope for the darkened soul
when the joy of spring
squeezed through the sadness
of the white desert pines
The Lord’s Pascha beckoned
and we came, crossing lines

* * *
The myrrh of Myra
from the relics of St. Nick
stayed behind in a cave

A land that once loved truth
was overrun by goat men
their mating cries so forcefully
upon this gray earth

The myrrh still streams
the priests still dream
of a land given wholly to the Giver

O Holy wonderworker
Nicholas of God
pray for us sinners
& have mercy on the “winners”
